According to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), 11 banks are currently in the process of closing in California. These closures, in addition to the 80 bank closures earlier in 2024, are part of a broader shift towards online banking.

Banks are required to notify the OCC at least 90 days before a location’s closing date. The OCC then posts these branch closing notifications in weekly bulletins.
Shift to Online Banking
According to American Banker, banks are increasingly investing in their online platforms as customers prefer to handle more of their banking transactions digitally. As a result, fewer physical branches are needed.
