President Trump Calls for Third Term: West Virginians Share Their Reactions

Posted on April 1, 2025

Although President Trump has made it clear that he is “not joking” about the possibility of running for a third term, the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution makes it impossible for any president to serve more than two terms.

While the notion of revising the Constitution to allow for a third term remains highly unlikely, Trump has suggested there might be ways around the restriction.

In West Virginia, locals are expressing mixed opinions about the idea of a third presidential term. Huntington resident Michelle Massie believes that the two-term limit exists for a reason, and she is skeptical about the idea of Trump running again. “There’s a reason why there are only two terms, and I don’t think it’s the best idea for him to run for a third,” she said.

On the other hand, Kory Lester from Wyoming County sees potential in a third term. “If it doesn’t work out, then we’ll know it shouldn’t have been done,” he said. “But I think we should be open to the possibility. A third term could give the president more time to bring about real change, and the progress he begins could continue without being undone by the next administration.”
