Tuesday, June 4, 2024, saw the early hours of Sergeant Tyler Sizemore and Deputy Hunter Walker responding to multiple calls on a man named “Beetle” Tilley in the Sabine area, both from the Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming County 911 Center. It was said in the reports that he was acting strangely and carrying a silver gun.
“Beetle” Tilley was at a church in the Sabine area, displaying a silver revolver and posing as a West Virginia State Trooper, according to a particular complaint filed with the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office.
Given that children were present when the incident occurred, the complaint voiced concerns about his upset or impaired state. When they got to the scene, Sabine church deputies saw Stephen “Beetle” Tilley wedged between two cars. When they got close to him, they motioned for him to move near the police cruiser so they could pat him down for officer safety.
Tilley was unstable and twitchy during the pat-down, talking incoherently the entire time. He pointed to the church and said that’s where the silver gun was when asked about it. Using his testimony as support, deputies found a small, loaded.25 caliber revolver inside the church.
Tilley confirmed to Deputy Walker that he had been telling people all day that he was a State Trooper and that he had worked for the West Virginia State Police for a number of years.
