CHARLESTON, W.Va – Marshall Wilson, a well-known former delegate from the Eastern Panhandle, has announced his candidacy for Governor of West Virginia. Having previously served in the House of Delegates as a Republican, Wilson later switched to an independent stance. This year, he is running for governor under the Constitution Party banner but needs additional signatures to secure his spot on the November ballot.
Wilson’s campaign is rooted in the belief that the public is dissatisfied with the current major party candidates: Republican Patrick Morrisey and Democrat Steve Williams. He pointed to the low voter turnout in the primary as evidence of this discontent.
βYou saw that in the primary. Iβm from Berkeley County and in my county, 17% of the registered voters showed up to vote. 17%, I mean thatβs insane. And yet we determine that these people who are elected actually represent the majority. Well, the majority doesnβt even vote,β Wilson remarked.
To appear on the November ballot, Wilson needs to collect 8,000 signatures by August 1. Currently, he is approximately 2,000 signatures short.

In addition to Wilson, other third-party candidates are expected to be on the ballot for governor this year, including Chase Linko-Looper of the Mountain Party and Erika Kolenich of the Libertarian Party.
