The mystery surrounding Babydog’s appearance in recently unveiled murals at the West Virginia Capitol building has finally been solved.
The biggest fireworks display in West Virginia will return to Beckley on July 5, 2024
During the West Virginia Day celebrations, the public noticed Babydog nestled within the landscape depiction of Seneca Rocks in the newly revealed murals.
West Virginia Cabinet Secretary Randall Reid-Smith revealed that the idea to include Babydog came about when the committee wanted to incorporate wildlife into the paintings.
“The only involvement Governor Jim Justice had in these murals was providing the funding for their completion after 92 years. Originally, there was no wildlife planned. We considered adding elk or the cardinal, but when the idea of including a dog came up, all five of us agreed: it had to be Babydog,” Secretary Reid-Smith explained.
In a debriefing session, Governor Justice expressed his surprise at Babydog’s unexpected cameo but expressed his delight, anticipating that it would draw more visitors to view the murals in the future.
