The finals of the Miss West Virginia Pageant will take place on Saturday night in Martinsburg, where outgoing Miss West Virginia Karrington Childress and Miss West Virginiaβs Teen Allison Dodson will crown their successors.
As their reigns come to an end, Childress and Dodson shared their most memorable experiences of the past year on Panhandle Live. Both residents of Jefferson County, they reflected on their impactful journeys.
Childress, who aspires to a career in elementary education, highlighted her interactions with youth as the most rewarding part of her tenure. βItβs been nothing short of amazing. Iβm going to cry thinking about it. Iβm so incredibly grateful for this experience,β she said. Childress took a year off from her studies at Shepherd University to serve as Miss West Virginia but plans to return to her studies in the fall.
Dodson, a recent graduate of Washington High School, emphasized the importance of spreading her social impact message. βMy year has been amazing. Iβve traveled and spoken with children, and my community service project, which focuses on the environment, allowed me to engage with a wide audience,β she said.
The finals will conclude a week of activities for contestants from across the state, competing in talent, fitness, evening wear, and on-stage questions. Miss America 2020 Camille Schrier will host the competition. Schrier, a graduate of Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University, has earned $77,000 in scholarships through her accomplishments in the Miss America and Miss Virginia organizations. Originally from Pennsylvania, Schrier expressed her support for the Miss America Organization’s shift away from swimsuit and body image competitions. βI am proud to be the first Miss America who never wore a swimsuit at any phase of competition in my entire Miss America experience,β she said.
Preliminaries will be held on Friday evening, with the finals beginning on Saturday at 7 p.m. with a Red Carpet Arrival at the Airborne Event Center, located at 172 Creative Place in Martinsburg. The finals will start at 8 p.m.
All competitions will be available via livestream with free public access. Follow the Miss West Virginia Organization on Facebook for links.
The winners will go on to compete in the upcoming Miss America pageant.
