The #WinWithBlackWomen network, founded by organizer and strategist Jotaka Eaddy, hosted a Zoom call on Sunday that attracted 44,000 participants and raised over $1.5 million for Kamala Harris‘ newly launched presidential campaign, according to Bloomberg.
Eaddy, the CEO and founder of social-impact consulting firm Full Circle Strategies, is often referred to as the “Olivia Pope of Silicon Valley” by Forbes. She previously held roles as a fintech executive at LendUp and a strategist at the NAACP.
Founded in 2020, #WinWithBlackWomen is a network comprising Black women leaders from various fields including business, tech, politics, and entertainment.
A Record-Breaking Fundraising Day
The Zoom event for Harris featured notable speakers such as Rep. Joyce Beatty of Ohio, Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas, and Rep. Maxine Waters of California, the first woman and African-American to chair the House Financial Services Committee, Bloomberg reported.
In just three hours, donations exceeded $1.5 million, as shared by #WinWithBlackWomen on Instagram. Attendance peaked at 44,000, causing the Zoom meeting to crash due to the overwhelming number of participants.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Eaddy thanked Zoom COO Aparna Bawa for facilitating the massive turnout. A marketing manager on X mentioned that Bawa intervened to enable the online meeting platform to handle the large number of attendees. Representatives for Zoom did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comments regarding Bawa’s involvement.
Surge in Donations Following Biden’s Endorsement
Following President Joe Biden’s decision to step down from the 2024 race and endorse Harris, there was a significant increase in donations. ActBlue reported on X that $46.7 million had been raised for Harris’ campaign within seven hours of the announcement, marking the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 election.
