Joe Biden extended birthday wishes to Donald Trump on Friday, saying, “from one old guy to another.” Biden’s post on X included the remark “age is just a number,” hinting at the frequent concerns about both men’s ages as they vie for the White House in November. Age has become a significant issue for many voters, with conservatives often criticizing Biden’s age as a reason for his unfitness for office.
However, Biden’s post wasn’t just a friendly birthday greeting; the 81-year-old president also shared a video contrasting his accomplishments with actions and comments from Trump, 78, that many Democrats find troubling.
In one part of the video, Trump appears in black and white with the caption “personally dismantled Roe V Wade,” followed by a color image of Biden with the title “fighting to restore [Roe V Wade].” Another segment shows Trump with the caption “gave tax cuts to big pharma,” while Biden’s tag reads “lowered the price of prescription drugs.”
Both Biden and Trump seem to be steering clear of age-related attacks in their recent messages. Over the weekend, during a rally in Las Vegas, Trump told his supporters that Biden wasn’t “old,” but “incompetent.”
Biden, who became the oldest U.S. president at 78, turns 82 in November. He has tried to address age-related concerns humorously. At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April, he joked about his age while taking a jab at Trump. βOf course age is an issue. Iβm a grown man, and Iβm running against a 6-year-old,β Biden quipped. βAge is the only thing we have in common; my vice president actually endorses me!β
Trump is celebrating his birthday today with his “Club 47 USA” fan club in West Palm Beach. Entry to the former president’s birthday bash costs between $35 and $60. The event will take place at the Palm Beach County Convention Center near his Mar-a-Lago home from 3 PM ET, with Trump expected to speak at around 7 PM.
A flyer for the celebration invites members to join in celebrating “the best president ever Donald J Trump,” featuring an image of Trump holding the American flag at CPAC surrounded by clip art balloons.
The Independent reached out to Trumpβs representatives and Club 47 for more details on the event, which has sold out all 5,000 tickets, according to club president Larry Snowden. It remains unclear what the proceeds from the event will be used for.
In Washington, congressional Republicans showed their support by presenting Trump with a cake featuring 47 candles, expressing their hope that he’ll become the 47th U.S. president in November.
