As you receive your electric bill in late July for the month of June, don’t be surprised if it’s significantly higher compared to this time last year. Despite starting July with some refreshing weather, June was exceptionally hot.
June was the third hottest on record in Beckley, the 19th hottest in Bluefield, and the 35th hottest in Lewisburg. From June 16-22, Beckley experienced its hottest 7-day stretch for the month, with an average high temperature of 87 degrees. Additionally, the average minimum temperature for the last two days of June was 68 degrees, marking the warmest two-day average for minimum temperatures in Beckley for June.
About a week ago, Beckley had two consecutive days with temperatures at or above 90 degrees, marking only the ninth time this has occurred. It’s worth noting that records at Beckley-Memorial Airport date back to May 15, 1963.
We will continue to monitor and update you on the heat and thunderstorm potential throughout July.
