A mother from Louisiana was discovered dead in her house on Thursday, and her two small girls were taken and discovered in Mississippi a few hours later, one of them dead and the other alive, according to the authorities.
According to officials, a guy from Louisiana who had dated the woman was taken into custody in Jackson, Mississippi, in relation to the kidnappings and fatalities.
The suspect, Daniel Callihan, 36, was recognized by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana.
“He possessed both the victim’s vehicle and her six-year-old child, who is still alive,” stated Chief Deputy Jimmy Travis of the agency.
According to Travis, the 4-year-old child’s body was discovered close to the vehicle in a Jackson wooded area. She was recognized by the office as Erin Brunetti.
According to the CBS Jackson station WJTV, Erin’s sister, 6-year-old Jalie Brunett, was identified by the city’s police chief, Joseph Wade. Wade stated that she was brought to a medical facility for care. He claimed that following a chase, Callihan was apprehended.
Following the discovery of their mother, Callie Brunett, 35, dead in her Loranger, Louisiana, home on Thursday, some 60 miles east of Baton Rouge, the children were placed under an Amber Alert by the Louisiana State Police. Travis stated that since no one had spoken to her since Tuesday, she had been declared missing. The reason of death was not disclosed right away.
According to Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards, who was cited by WJTV, Callie Brunetti’s father discovered her death on the bedroom floor of her locked mobile home.
Edwards declared, “This was just an unspeakable crime.” “The families of the victims has our deepest sympathies and prayers. It was a terrible accident.”
According to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, the case was brought up with the human trafficking branch of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. He claimed that in the wooded area, tiny animal cages had been found.
“He tried to do away with the children by taking them into this wooded area,” Wade said of the perpetrator, adding, “This was a horrible, horribly tragic situation that was committed by the actions of a coward.”
