CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – West Virginia license plates received an update this summer, allowing drivers to display increased state pride on their vehicles.
According to the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (WVDMV), the new plate design prominently features a West Virginia State outline in the center and includes a seventh digit on every plate. This addition of the beveled state outline aligns with trends seen in other states like Pennsylvania and Nevada.
The WVDMV states that this new design will be the standard for class A motor vehicle plates in West Virginia, with the rollout beginning in July 2023. As with previous designs, the first digit of each plate indicates the year the plate was issued.
Drivers can personalize the new plate design with up to 8 characters, including spaces. The renewal fee for the plate is $51.50 per year, according to the WVDMV.
