HARRISONBURG, Va. – A First Alert Weather Day has been declared for Saturday for the second time this week.
The region will see some sunshine again in the afternoon on Saturday after a warm front with sporadic showers moves through in the morning. Late afternoon into the evening, a few isolated to sporadic storms are expected to form. These storms could bring heavy rain, a low risk of a low-end tornado, and isolated strong to damaging wind gusts.
Showers and storms will intensify primarily around 3–4 pm, while some areas will remain dry with rainfall and coverage being restricted late in the day into the evening. Before a fragmented line of showers with an embedded storm arrives by midnight, they will primarily linger until 9 or 10 p.m.
Overnight showers are probable a couple more times, but by then the serious threat should have subsided.
The areas with the biggest chance of experiencing a few of these strong to severe storms include those in the northern and western Valleys, as well as West Virginia. Cloud cover will determine sunshine and storm fuel, however in some configurations, atmospheric dynamics can occasionally overcome cloud cover, even in cases when coverage is restricted.
