NITRO, WV (WVPREPBB) – This weekend, Metro 911 of Kanawha County is hosting the largest pickleball tournament in West Virginia, featuring over 200 athletes. The Pro-Am event will take place at the Nitro Athletic Complex pickleball courts.
Tournament Details:

- Saturday: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Sunday: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Location: Nitro Athletic Complex pickleball courts
Saturday’s Schedule:
- The first day of the tournament is dedicated to amateur players.
- Multiple brackets have been organized for singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches.
Amateur Highlight:
- Stacie Archer, an amateur pickleball player, shared her excitement for the tournament. βFirst and foremost, I want to have fun. If I bring home a little hardware, thatβs just icing on the cake,β said Archer.
Bracket Organization:
- John Rutherford, Executive Director of Metro 911 Kanawha County, explained the bracket system. βWe rate people by their age, so you play against people in your age group. Once we get your age group, we also rate you by your skill level. 3.0 is a beginner, 5.0 is an expert,β said Rutherford.
Sunday’s Schedule:
- The professional matches will be held, with a $15,000 cash prize awarded to the winner.
Professional Highlight:
- Susannah Barr, the Association of Pickleball Playersβ number one ranked female player, will be competing.
- Barr hosted a clinic for all Intermediate skill level players today and will host another on Monday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Additionally, there will be a clinic for Intermediate/Advanced players from 10 a.m. to noon.
