A tragic incident occurred early Saturday morning on Gulf Beach Highway and Navy Boulevard in Pensacola, resulting in the death of a 60-year-old Uber driver and serious injuries to two US Navy Sailors.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the Uber driver, accompanied by two sailors aged 28 and 22, was traveling southbound through the intersection of Navy Boulevard and Gulf Beach Hwy with a green light around 4:05 a.m.
Eyewitnesses reported that a 19-year-old Pensacola woman driving a Hyundai sedan was heading eastbound through the same intersection and ran a red light. The Hyundai collided with the Subaru on its right side, as detailed by the FHP.
Tragically, the Subaru driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Both Navy sailors were rushed to the hospital via ambulance as trauma patients. The driver of the Hyundai also sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to the FHP.
Authorities have informed the US Navy command stationed at Pensacola NAS about the sailors involved, though next-of-kin notifications are pending.
