Minneapolis, MN – Head coach Ben Johnson hinted at the possibility of bolstering the University of Minnesota men’s basketball roster during summer workouts a few weeks ago. On Monday, the team officially announced the addition of Tyler Cochran, a 6-2 guard transferring from Toledo, for his final year of eligibility.
“We’re really excited to add Tyler Cochran to our program,” Johnson stated. “He is a high-character young man with veteran leadership experience and production. Tyler comes from a great winning culture and program. He will add versatility and experience to our roster.”
Cochran brings impressive credentials to the Gophers. He was a Second Team All-MAC selection last year and shared the league’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year honor. He averaged 14.4 points and led Toledo with 6.4 rebounds per game as they clinched the MAC regular season title. In conference play, Cochran upped his performance, averaging 15.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while shooting 52.3 percent from the field.
Notably, Cochran also reached a significant milestone last year, scoring his 1,000th career point. His addition will enhance the depth of the Gophers’ backcourt, which includes Mike Mitchell Jr., Brennan Rigsby, Femi Odukale, Isaac Asuma, Caleb Williams, and Lu’Cye Patterson.
The Gophers look forward to the experience and versatility Cochran will bring to the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
