Another summer classic has been hit with a recall. Nearly 7,000 pounds of hot dogs have been recalled after it was discovered they were produced without federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on Monday.
This recall follows just weeks after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a national recall of certain ice cream products.
AW Farms, an Argillite, Kentucky-based meat processing company, initiated the recall after discovering that the hot dogs had not undergone the required federal inspection.
The hot dogs, produced on several dates on or after May 30, were shipped to restaurants and hotels in Ohio and West Virginia. The affected products include:
- 10-lb boxes containing two 5-lb vacuum-packed packages labeled βFRENCH CITY FOODS 6β 12-1 HOTDOGSβ
- 10-lb boxes containing two 5-lb vacuum-packed packages of frozen βPORK, BEEF, DEXTROSE, SALT, SUGAR MAPLE GEO BROWN ALL MEAT HOTDOGSβ
- 10-lb boxes containing two 5-lb vacuum-packed packages of frozen βGEO BROWN ALL BEEF HOTDOGSβ
A state public health partner notified the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the federal agency responsible for inspecting all commercially sold meat, about the recalled products. Following an investigation, it was confirmed that the hot dogs were produced and distributed without a federal inspection.
At this time, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these hot dogs. However, the USDA recommends that anyone concerned about their health after eating one of the recalled hot dogs contact a healthcare provider.
The USDA is also advising businesses that possess the recalled products not to serve them and to either discard them or return them.
