Wawa is officially bringing its popular convenience store chain to West Virginia, with construction now underway on its first location in the state. The new store is being built in the Inwood area, marking the company’s entry into the Mountain State, according to Fox Business via the New York Post.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held earlier this week to celebrate the beginning of construction. The store is expected to be completed and ready for customers in the first quarter of 2025.
“We’re excited to expand into West Virginia and bring our unique brand of service and community engagement to a new region,” said John Poplawski, Vice President of Real Estate at Wawa.
Wawa currently operates over 1,060 stores across eight states and Washington, D.C., and its move into West Virginia is part of a broader expansion plan. Company officials say they plan to open between three and five stores across the state over the next several years.

Looking beyond West Virginia, Wawa is also exploring growth opportunities in other states, including Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia, and Tennessee.
Poplawski expressed enthusiasm about the company’s upcoming presence in West Virginia: “We’re looking forward to opening our doors and becoming part of the Inwood community. Our goal is to be more than just a convenience store—we want to be a part of daily life for our customers.”
