West Virginia – Wawa is set to make its debut in West Virginia, with plans for its first store in Inwood. According to Jim Walsh of the Courier-Post, the groundbreaking ceremony for this new location is scheduled for August 14.
This store will mark Wawaβs entry into its 14th state, further expanding its footprint beyond its traditional bases. The new Inwood store will be approximately 175 miles from Wawa’s home base in Delaware County.
In addition to this new development, Wawa is also celebrating construction milestones for new stores in Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. Earlier this year, the convenience store chain opened its first locations in Alabama and North Carolina, showcasing its continued growth.
Each Wawa store involves an investment of about $7 million. The upcoming Inwood storeβs groundbreaking will be a festive occasion, featuring a βTaste of Wawaβ event where hundreds of VIP guests can sample a variety of Wawaβs popular offerings, including hoagies, soft pretzels, and smoothies. The event will be hosted by Wawaβs mascot, Wally Goose.
With over 1,060 locations, many of which include gas stations and EV charging stations, Wawa continues to grow rapidly. The company reached a significant milestone in April 2023 with the opening of its 1,000th store in Oaklyn, New Jersey. Founded in 1964 with its first store in Folsom, Wawa is a family-owned business that generates an estimated annual revenue exceeding $18 billion.
