The West Virginia Democratic Party (WVDP) announced on Monday that its delegates to the Democratic National Convention have voted to support Kamala Harrisβ presidential bid.
The WVDP stated that Vice President Harrisβ nomination would mark a significant milestone for African American women and American politics.
Jean Evansmore, an 83-year-old African American woman and civil rights activist, expressed her pride in Harrisβ leadership. “As someone who has witnessed the struggles and triumphs of the civil rights movement, seeing Vice President Harris as our nominee fills me with immense pride. Her leadership is what our nation needs to restore justice and equality,” Evansmore said.
Teresa Toriseva, West Virginia Democratic Vice Chair and candidate for Attorney General, highlighted Harrisβ advocacy for reproductive rights. βVice President Harris has been a steadfast advocate for reproductive rights. In light of recent attacks on reproductive freedom, her commitment to safeguarding these rights is crucial. We need her leadership to ensure that every woman has the autonomy over her own body and the freedom to make her own health care decisions,β Toriseva stated.
House of Delegates candidate Olivia Dowler emphasized the importance of Harrisβ leadership in countering the threats posed by Donald Trump. βDonald Trump represents an existential threat to our democracy. His divisive rhetoric and policies have undermined the very foundation of our nation. Vice President Harris is the leader we need to unite us and steer us towards a brighter future,β Dowler said.
The WVDP concluded by urging West Virginians to join them in supporting Vice President Harris in her presidential campaign.
