It was an ordinary day for Emily Perna and her baby when, unexpectedly, the car seat her child was in began to smoke.
Perna recalls that the incident occurred very quickly. When she opened the car door to remove her baby, she noticed that direct sunlight had reflected off a mirror and onto the edge of the car seat.
βWhatβs really confusing when I tell this story is people think that it was shining through the window, it wasnβt because the door was open. So, it came directly from the sun to the mirror to the car seat.β
Emily Perna, concerned parent
Shortly afterward, Perna took to Facebook to warn other parents about the potential dangers of backseat mirrors.
Although other parents have suggested using different mirrors or cameras, Perna has decided to keep them out of the car for the time being.
