CHARLESTON, W.Va. – On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.) announced that three childhood development programs in West Virginia will receive a combined total of just over $16 million in federal funding awards.
The three programs, which serve various regions across West Virginia, received individual awards from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) as follows:
- North-Central West Virginia Community Action Association: $8,823,443
- Eastern Panhandle Instructional Cooperative: $5,868,430
- Greenbrier County Board of Education: $1,360,810
These programs are part of West Virginia’s Head Start initiative, which supports early learning and development, family well-being, and other services for children from birth to age 5.
Senator Manchin, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which allocates federal funds to various government agencies and programs each year, emphasized the importance of this funding.
“Every child in West Virginia deserves access to a quality education, no matter their background or where they live in our great state,” Manchin said in a press release. “I’m pleased that HHS is investing more than $16 million to support these critical Head Start programs, which will provide the children they serve with the skills and foundation they need for a brighter future. As a long-time supporter of Head Start programs, I will continue advocating for funding to support educational opportunities for children across the Mountain State.”
