Appalachian Power Co. and Wheeling Power Co. have received approval to adjust their rates to fund necessary upgrades at three of their coal-fired power plants in order to meet federal environmental regulations.
The Public Service Commission of West Virginia has authorized the companies to increase their surcharge by $35.6 million, which is slightly less than the $37.2 million initially requested. This rate adjustment will take effect on September 1.
The additional funds will be used for modifications at the John Amos, Mountaineer, and Mitchell power plants to ensure they comply with federal environmental standards. The rate increase request was submitted by the companies on October 20, 2023.
During a public comment hearing held on February 29, only one member of the public opposed the proposed rate increase. For further details, visit the PSC website and refer to Case No. 23-0831-E-P under the βCase Informationβ section.
