West Virginia responds to calls for President Joe Biden to halt his campaign.

CHARLESTON, WV (WVPREPBB) — Calls for President Joe Biden to withdraw from his reelection bid are growing louder across the nation, including in West Virginia. Many are concerned that his candidacy could jeopardize other political races. Some national Democratic party leaders have privately urged the president to consider stepping aside, and they suggest he is more open to the idea, though he has not made any moves in that direction yet.

For the first time publicly, President Biden’s campaign manager has acknowledged a “slippage” in both Democratic support and campaign donations.

Nationally, Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) has called on Biden to withdraw. Tester’s Senate seat, along with two in West Virginia and Ohio, are prime targets for Republicans aiming to flip them and take control of the Senate.

Many political analysts believe President Biden will eventually step away from seeking re-nomination.

“Republicans are in a position to not only take over the presidency, but both houses of Congress unless the Democrats take charge and escort the president off the stage,” said Professor Emeritus Robert Rupp of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Those advocating for Biden to drop out argue that he needs to decide soon so that Democrats can choose between Vice President Kamala Harris and several other lawmakers who have expressed interest in the nomination. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled for August 19 to 22 in Chicago.

As for President Biden, he announced Friday that he will be back on the campaign trail next week after spending a few days recovering from COVID-19 at his home in Delaware.
