A woman was arrested on Tuesday, June 11, in connection with the death of twin babies that occurred in southern West Virginia in February.
Thirty-year-old Olivia Moore was charged with two counts of child neglect resulting in death. The twins, Ava and Amina Johnson, were two years old.
According to the criminal complaint, on February 28, state troopers responded to reports of unresponsive twin babies in Raleigh County and found the twins deceased with foam coming from their mouths.
Troopers reported that Moore had moved the twins from a back bedroom to a couch in the living room before law enforcement arrived. The scene was secured by members of the West Virginia State Police, who then contacted the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team to process the scene.
The Bradley Volunteer Fire Department tested the home for carbon monoxide, but the results were negative.
Moore was interviewed by a trooper at the Beckley detachment of the West Virginia State Police while the crime scene team processed the scene. According to Moore, she had been looking after the twins the previous night and that morning. During the interview, Moore mentioned that something seemed off with the twins around 2:00 a.m., but they were still alive at that time.
When the investigating trooper received the death certificates for the babies, they noted the presence of ethanol and fentanyl intoxication, as well as carfentanilβan opioid 100 times more potent than fentanyl and used as a tranquilizer for large zoo animals like elephantsβacetylfentanyl, lidocaine, quinine, and diphenhydramine.
Troopers contacted Moore on Monday, June 10, and requested a meeting. Following another interview on Tuesday, June 11, Moore was arrested.
