SOUTH CHARLESTON β As of July 1, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) has released revised guidelines for black bear, wild turkey, and white-tailed deer hunting.
Hunters have a lot to look forward to this fall with West Virginiaβs world-class deer seasons and additional small and large game hunting options. WVDNR Director Brett McMillion stated, βWe encourage everyone to review these significant changes and plan accordingly.β
Important updates consist of:
- alterations to open counties and the dates of the antlerless deer season (see pages 15-20).
- Changes to open counties and dates for the fall wild turkey season (see page 44).
- Dates and counties that are open for the black bear firearms hunting seasons have been revised (see page 41).
- With the exception of three antlered deer permitted in the West Virginia CWD Containment Area for holders of Class XS licenses, the yearly bag limit for antlered deer in all normal deer seasons is two.
- Jefferson County has new rules for the transportation of deer carcasses.
- On private property, coyote night hunting is now allowed from September 1 to December 31 with the landownerβs written authorization.
Here is a summary of the most recent regulations. A printed copy is available to hunters upon request from the WVDNR district office or their local hunting and fishing license agent. Hunters are also urged to buy their West Virginia hunting permits and stamps for 2024 before the autumn hunting seasons begin. Go to WVhunt.com to get a license and stamps.
